We always welcome all the support we can get at Fourth Feathers. This page showcases some of the stories of people who have supported us, both with what they have given and some of the rewards they have gained from working with us.

 WORK EXPERIENCE

  Ali                                             City of Westminster College
18 years old                                                  21/03/2019

I have been attending the youth club for over 10 years since a little kid, so I’m familiar with the youth club. I spoke to Andrew about doing my work experience here and he accepted me. I have been given a placement for a week.

Monday was my reading day to ready the code of practice and information about staff need to know about the centre.

On Tuesday I got involved in two sessions at 3-5 and 6-8. From3-5 I got involved in helping the children with their homework and I joined in with activities such as pool and football. From 6-8 I was on the reception collecting 50p entry fee from each person that attended the youth club. I participated with activities such as dominos, pool and football.

On Wednesday I participated in two sessions from 3-5 and 7-9. From 3-5 I got involved in helping with there homework and I joined in with many activities. From 7-9 I participated in boxing and went into to the music studio.

On Thursday I participated in two sessions from 11:45-2 on reception letting in school kids in and then from 5:30-8:30, I was at the door for 1 hour and then went downstairs to participate in helping staff.

On Friday I was in for two sessions 2-5 and 6-9. From 2-5 it was junior club and 6-9 I had to write an evaluation about my placement. I felt I was involved because I helped many young people.

I have learnt that youth work is hard because you will have to be physical with the youth to guide them to correct path. Youth work is important because they help youths to stay on the correct guide.

Each day I would help set up and tidy up and make sure the place is ready for the next group.

If there were no youth workers the youths will be “off guide” meaning they will become criminals. Not sure of doing this job as I would like to become a boxer. I would highly recommend this centre to students because they will be guided to the correct path. I don’t mind being a volunteer in the future.
